October 2013 Newsletter
This month's CLE and bar luncheon will take place at noon on October 30, 2013, in the Hotel St. Michael's Ballroom. The menu choices are Chicken Alfredo and Vegetarian Alfredo. Please RSVP by noon on October 24th. There will be two presentations this month:
Andrew Westle, Esq. from the firm of Gurstel Chargo will make a 30 minute presentation on the Wills for Heroes Program. This presentation will not qualify for CLE credit. Mr. Westle will give an overview of the regional event to be held in Prescott on Saturday, November 16. The program will teach everything you need to know for basic estate planning. We hope that the Saturday program will be a heavily attended event and that our local bar can step up to provide basic estate planning services before our local military, fire, police and other first responders are sent into harms way. We are asking for your assistance with recruiting local lawyers to participate and draft estate planning documents. Here is a link with more about the Wills for Heroes Program. http://www.willsforheroes.org
Chris Jensen, Esq. of the Jensen Law Firm will also make a 30 minute presentation on the major change to ER 1.15 (safe guarding property) recently adopted by the Arizona Supreme Court and effective January 1, 2014. The petition adopted was R-12-0032, one of several petitions considered by the State Bar Rules Committee and the Supreme Court. This CLE presentation will qualify for 30 minutes of ethics credit.
Also, attached is the ballot for the 2014 YCBA Board of Directors. Our current YCBA secretary, Penny Wamboldt, will be unable to serve next year, so we have two vacancies on the board (treasurer and secretary), and two candidates running for these positions. Please vote for only one candidate for the two open positions. The top vote getter will fill the secretary position, and the runner up will fill the treasurer's position. Please return your ballot no later than November 27th (the date of our next bar luncheon). You can email the ballot to This email address is being protected from spambots. Finally, this is your last opportunity to submit a nomination for our two yearly awards (the Jack L. Ogg Award and the Harold J. Wolfinger Award). As most of you will recall, the Jack L. Ogg award recognizes service to our community, and the Harold J. Wolfinger Award recognizes exemplary ethics and professionalism. If you would like to nominate someone, please let me or another board member know as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Bill Hughes
